Aw, this was a definitely nice post. Perhaps more of your readers should look at buying in bulk. I bought 50 pounds oats at the beginning of the month for $34. I also buy rice, beans, and more in bulk for some serious savings.

We eat for .40 per person per day ($3 for my family of 8). It can be done.

Citrus is in season now, so you’ll get some of your best deals there; it can last for months in the fridge. Today we ate oranges that I bought on on sale in November. They were great. At snack time we had popcorn (I buy a 50 lb bag for $17) that I popped on the stove.

I just wanted to say that Money Saving Mom and David Ramsey are total frauds.
I truly think Ramsey may want to re-think his `Christian” values … and
quit trying to fleece folks out of their hard earned money, to simply line
the Ramsey houehold. Is that the Christian way of doing things? I`m not saying to not
charge a reasonable fee for the seminar … but over $5000 per person …
times by 150 folks …. is over $750,000 !! The only folks that are going
to be debt free are you and your cronies!! Money Saving Mom is one of his Cronies

Did you notice on Money Saving Mom all she is bragging about is her book. So much for helping other’s only the proceeds from the book went to that program. They will donate net proceeds (about 20% of gross) to charity.
Also, if you google Crystal Pain first kiss you can find out a lot about her.
How about the post about when they bought the house that disappeared later?
Seems her innner self is not quite what she reveals it to be.

I have been reading your blog for almost one year. At the start of the year our goal was to pay off all of our credit card debt and by using your blog post we have been able to pay off all $22K in credit card debt that we had!!! Not only did we accomplish this, we have had one of those years (Where Murphy moves in and does not wish to move out) We have managed to pay in cash for a new stove, dishwasher,hot water heater, surgery for hubby’s back, brakes for the car and a new HVAC unit and we are still debt free!
I have to admit there were many times when we did not know what we were eating and there were weeks when I bought a very large bag of baking potatoes and we just topped them with different things all week long. We have many tough times still ahead but we have learned how to have family vacations and really enjoy ourselves on way less money, give to other’s when we wish to give to charity (without pulling from what is desperately needed for our own family) and have a lovely enjoyable holiday season with wonderful gifts for all. Thank you for providing my family with the tips to living well on less, time, less money and less patience. So that we could learn to live WELL! I have never been so Happy!

Wow this is a great list for budget.
When we have managed to sit and do a budget in the past we would list
Rent
Utilities
Car payments

yet we had all those additional fees and charges you list and never really thought about them.

I am going to keep track for one entire year and see what every expense is for a year and I am going to start with your categories and see if I need to add any for our family.
We are working hard to get and stay out of debt.

How did your family get out of debt and how have your managed to stay out of debt?

Our budget is based on income and we have a budget we share with others for free. We started with money coming into the home and devote every dollar earned a job. This means unlike most of America you can not spend the money you are earning more than once. We have zero debt and we live this way on purpose. Let me know if I can help in any additional ways. I work hard at feeding our family healthy meals and keeping our home clean for the $120 you see as our budget. ($20 for the drug stores) $100 for groceries many weeks I fall under on our budget however I keep the money in the grocery budget and if we have company or are celebrating a holiday we use the extra to purchase special meals.

I use to spend about $15,000 per month of items needed for our home. My husband earns a six figure salary it is just over $400K so we never thought much about it until this year. I have cut back but as a challenge to myself this month I want to see if I can do your $100 grocery challenge with the $20 for drug store.We both never cared much about what things cost because we always had plenty for retirement and everything else.

A one sheet price list is what I use.
I have just a number of basic items down and it does work.
Yesterday I was shopping for crackers I have down that I would like to pay between $1.50 and $1.99 for a box of name brand crackers like Club crackers.
The sale price in the store I was in $3.99
so I stopped at a dollar store on the way home same crackers same expiration date $1.50 per box I had to stop anyway because the top store was out of a few things I needed. So why not save the cash.

Try doing a price book for just the top 15 items you seem to run out of alot.
Eggs
Do just one for all produce in general like almost all produce that I could purchase at .99 lb or better
Something like all cereal say $2.00 to $2.99 per box is a great price right now
Coffee
Try starting by walking the grocery aisles and pick one or two things per aisle and see if you can do a quickie price book
Even this much would help a ton!
In this way you could get the basic 80 percent covered

I save cereal lines for weeks then when I make Breakfast Biscuits I wrap the sandwiches in the cereal liners and I do not have to buy additional wrap for the biscuits. I make them some weeks with just sausage as this is really fast.

This is an exceptional post! The one thing I would add is about the several income streams, In our home we have added friends in order to have more income streams in our home. We now have 6 adults and everyone’s children living in our home. We made a community with our own rules etc. We even had to get some of the office type dividers to to divide some rooms but we are making it work!This type of group living is not for everyone however, I did want to say it is possible to increase the income streams without adding extra jobs to one or two peoples work loads. We Love our new community and we just had Sunday Breakfast together and took a vote everyone is enjoying the way it is working out!
